Ernst & Young: Sleeping with Your Smartphone
1. Introduction
The employees of Ernst and Young are generally happy with their company and work
life, and indeed is rated top fifty in Fortune magazine’s one hundred best places to work in the
world. Ernst and Young is a multinational corporation which offers professional accounting and
tax services as well as expert knowledge to help your clients with their business. Accounting
work itself is very demanding, and with the standards and expectations your employees must
adhere to, there is a lot of potential for stress. Increasing flexible work schedules throughout the
company aims to create autonomy and flexibility for individuals as they can choose when and
where to work per their preference. However, a problem arises because this flexible work
schedule is causing employees to experience burnout and constant stress related to being unable
to switch off from their work life. Smartphones and other forms of instant communication means
that employees must be connected to their work always, especially since there are no set work
hours and employees choose their own times and location. EY employees are losing motivation
to work because they cannot disconnect from work stress, and do not find time for leisurely or
familial activities. JAES Consulting is here to use our knowledge and expertise on organizational
topics to provide a way to solve EY’s issue that will allow the flexible work schedule
implemented to motivate and reduce the stress of your employees, without the negative stress
factors. This report will guide you through the applications of organizational behaviour models
associated with your current situation. Which then will be analyzed and used with our research
and expertise to offer an action-packed recommendation for your company to implement in
hopes of eradicating employee stress and improving job satisfaction.
