Comm/busi 455 -- principles of auditing: comment on whether hawkes met canadian auditing standards as it pertains to the following 4 items listed in column a. The students were not professionally competent as auditors. They did not have the knowledge required to perform the audit. As stated in the textbook, the auditor must have access to independent experts if required however that is not the case here. No due care as hawkes was not being diligent by allowing the students to carry out all the work and in the end, he simply put together an unqualified report. There was also no documenting for any of the audit stages. Hawkes did allow others to influence his decision process (in this case it would be the students and the management team). Hawkes was aware that he was on jury duty but because of his own self-interest, he took up the offer to audit.
