Document Summary

Since you are students in an upper-level course, it is not the policy of this class to test your knowledge of minutiae in short-answer questions. Instead, the exam is divided into two sections. The rst consists of one or two essays question, which you must answer. The second section contains 4-6 comparative essay questions of which you will have a limited choice. Each question consists of two images, two quotations, or a quotation and image. All of these are drawn from your weekly readings and lectures there will be no new material on the exam. It is your job to write an essay response that argues an historical relationship between the two components. Keep in mind that (1) the lectures do not explicitly address the two components (quotes and/or images) in conjunction with one another; and (2) there are often multiple plausible arguments to make for each pair of components.
