Document Summary
Behavioural neuroendocrinology (bne) definition: the study of the interaction between hormones and behaviour. " Clark hull described drive/drive reduction (aka appetitive and consummatory phases): drive is for different physiological needs (these needs leads to a particular behaviour) All behaviour has an adaptive purpose, all behaviour considered motivated. No support for notion of general-purpose drive. This all boils down to: behaviours that were considered motivated are concerned with maintaining homeostasis. Drive does not describe motivation, rather, it is hormones/endocrine factors that drive these behaviours. Hormone definition: chemicals secreted by specialized cells and conveyed to other parts of the body, where they act on specific target tissues to produce specific physiological effects. Hormones coordinate the physiology and behaviour of an animal by regulating, integrating, and controlling bodily functions. Hormones vs neurotransmitters: there is no hard distinction b/w these 2 things, some chemicals are both.
