Document Summary

5 number summary = the five-number summary of a distribution consists of the smallest observation, the first quartile, the median, the third quartile, and the largest observation, written in ordered from smallest to largest. A box plot is a graph of the five-number summary. B/c box plots show less detail than histograms or stem plots, they are best used for side by side comparisons of more than one distribution. 68% of the observations fall within one standard deviations of the mean. 95% of the observations fall within two standard deviations of the mean. 99. 7% of the observations fall within three standard deviations of the mean. Anonymity = subjects are anonymous their names are not known even to the director of the study. Bias = consistent, repeated deviation of the sample statistic from the population parameter in the same direction when we take many samples (to reduce bias, use random sampling).
