The first rule of critical, anti-oppressive practice is that we cannot simply blame marginalized individuals for their experiences of hardship and suffering. Globalization: free trade, internet, international education, colonialism, loss of culture, corporations, elimination of borders, free flow, outsourcing (production of products in another country at half the price) Oppression: marginalized people are oppressed, implies that you can be oppressed as an individual and systemically, need to look at how it affects the individual as well as how it affects people systemically. Economic recession: how and why we go through periods of unemployment. Basic needs: having basic needs met, and at what point that is achieved. Unemployment insurance employment insurance: emphasis on needing to be employed to receive benefits. Special interest groups : the people who are marginalized and oppressed.
