Hormones can have far reaching effects on a target tissues. Gh hormone is super important and is only 9 aa long. Only held together by hydrogen bonds and therefore are not strong. Harder to make but allows it to make small specific changes. Know the order in which the hormones change within the steroid pathway\ Little change in structure can cause 2 similar hormones can really affect what they do in the body. Endocrine glands are a cluster of cells that secrete hormones. May have to travel the whole body before they can get to the target tissue. When the hormones get to the target organs they act on specific cells and not on others. Challenge when trying to pass through cell mem. They need a mode of transport through blood. Can bind to any plasma protein and hitch a ride. The specificity comes into action when they search inside the cell for a receptor on the nucleus.
