Peoples start to wear clothes 170,000 years ago. The earliest material culture date from 110,000 years old. Some stylized human depictions may be wearing elements of dress made from fibers. The earliest representation of spun thread as the carving shows a skirt hanging from below the hip. For protection against elements, for status (garments), for modesty and for decoration. Decoration seems to be the most basic motivation for dress. Limitations: style must permit required activities, local access and through trade (availability of materials). Dress can be divided between tailored (sur mesure) and draped clothing. There are also clothes that combine draping and tailoring. Technology limits or expands options: lot of time, mechanized loon, textile loom (tisser) powered by electricity. Social mores and customs may limit or expand clothing choices. Themes: is a recurring or unifying subject or idea. For example social life, social class structure, social roles including those related to gender. Changes and patterns in social behaviour lifestyles.
