Document Summary

Behavioral assessment is the measurement of the target behaviour. Behavioural assessment is useful for the following reasons: Help you choose the best treatment (if one is required) Behavioural assessment done before and after the treatment can help determine if the treatment was useful. In indirect assessments, we use interviews, questionnaires and rating scales to get information from the individual showing the behaviour or others (like parents/ teacher/friends) Disadvantages: relies on an individual"s memory, people providing information may not be properly trained or missed occurrences of the behaviour. Direct assessment is the observation + recording of the target behaviour as it occurs. This is the most preferred method as it provide more accurate information. The first step in a behavioural assessment is to define the target behaviour. Defining the target behaviour requires that the individual identifies what they are saying/doing that makes up the behaviour. Must not be labels- labels are not behaviour b/c they hold different meanings for different people.
