There are great inequities in the availability of mental health professionals around the world heart disease and diabetes) Perhaps due to the stressfulness of living and/or working conditions, the rate of mental health problems is even higher among certain groups (ex. 15% of military personnel reported a mental disorder, and 23% believed they required mental health services) Most mental disorders are overlooked or misdiagnosed. Only a small percentage of those individuals who suffer from a mental disorder ever receive treatment; mental health problems are neglected when effective, relatively inexpensive treatments exist for most of these conditions.
