Based on the idea that performance is a part of everyday life. That people act based off of social script. Me is represented in this as it allows individuals to behave appropriately. Every day people act through the use of frames to determine how to act. Dramaturgy was developed by erving goffman, who is known for being a symbolic interactionist. Goffman believed that people crafted their everyday interaction based off of social scripts. People wear appropriate masks and accommodate certain role in order to control impressions of ourselves. Impression management the process of potraying yourself in a manner that creates a desired impression. People know what roles to play within different social situations. Individuals attempt to control to guide others impressions. Can be highly constructive b/c it allows people to behave in socially appropriate ways. There are those out there who criticize this work. Goffman cautions against impression management in harmful ways.
