Racism in canada still occurs- differently than it used to. Nobody is responsible for the actions of the past, we are only responsible for what we do now . Before european contact, the first nations and inuit people lived here. 1783: 17 black loyalists who were living as free people in canada but they were hevily discriminated against and not given what they were promised for their service. 1834: britain abolished slavery in all its colonies. 1847: irish fled famine and came to canada. 1850: ontario govt. introduced the schools act alive and well for over 100 years. After emancipation proclamation in the us thousands of black people returned to the us because canada was so inhospitable to them. After 1981, the majority of immigrants were no longer from europe but from other countries. Listed as one of the most racist acts of all time.
