Understanding the discourse of foucault"s work is complex and difficult due the way he has reproduced the socio-historic contexts into his own philosophies. On the other hand, the his work examines a historical transformation from the eighteenth and nineteenth-century to modern day. It criticizes the traditional methods of punishment and analyzes the modern penal system, by studying the disciplinary mechanisms that can be used to punish prisoners. Analytically, foucault displays his arguments from a marxist position even though his perspective seem parallel to structuralism. It appears that he is discussing genealogy; however, under the surface of his simple use of language, there is a more intricate understanding of the subject at hand.
