Biotechnology: the use of living organism or their product to modify or improve human health and human environment, the application of scientific principles to the processing of material by biological organism to provide improved commodities. Synthetic biology: the design and construction of new biological functions and systems not found in nature: the first cell controlled by a chemically synthesized genome, potential applications, biofuels, vaccines, antibiotics, synthetic pharmaceutical agents. Identification of genes with the function of interest: cloning of the gene into expression construct, expression of recombinant protein in the desired organism, optimization of the expression systems; promoter, signal sequence, regulatory sequence, protein engineering. Areas of biotechnology: organismic biotechnology, molecular biotechnology, transgenic organism. Applications of biotechnology: production of new improved crops/foods pharmaceuticals and livestock, diagnostics for detaching genetics diseases, infection, gene therapy, environment restoration, protection of endangered species, forensic applications, food processing.
