Emile durkheim: focused social conditions in society (economic depressions) where rule lost their value, changing social conditions. Robert merton: focused on embedded social structure and cultural disparities in society which generates anomie, permanent features of social structure. Anomie- breakdown of social norms and a condition in which those norms no longer control the activity of societal members. Mechanical society: simple non-specialized form, people behave and think similarly, perform same work tasks and have group oriented goals. Organic society: complex, highly specialized form, as society becomes more complex, work also becomes more complex and specialized, highly interactive sets of relationships, specialized labor, and individual goals. Committed during times of great stress or change. Without regulation people cannot set reachable goals and get extremely frustrated. Person commits this suicide when they are not supported in social group. Altruistic suicide- when social integration is too high. All they care about are the groups norms and goals that they neglect their own needs.
