What is evolution: evolution is the change over time in some entity or collection of entities. It involves changes in phenotypes (a phenotype refers to the observable physical properties of an organism , these include the organism"s appearance, development and behaviour) Relevance of evolution: disease, pathogens and parasites, human medicine, antibiotics resistance (evolution - population of bacteria, allows us to use phylogenetic trees to find new sources of medication. Genetic drift: the change in the frequency of an existing gene variant (allele) in a population due to random sampling of organisms. Random sampling: a sampling method in which all members of a group (population or universe) have an equal and independent chance of being selected. Sexual selection: sexual selection acts on an organism"s ability to obtain (often by any means necessary!) or successfully copulate with a mate. Bottleneck: a population bottleneck is an event that drastically reduces the size of a population.
