Photoautotrophic: organisms that derive their energy through photosynthesis rather than eating food: difference between plants and animals. Instead, plants evolve to produce compound to deter herbivores, prevent disease, and protect themselves from abiotic stress: unable to move to mate, they produce compounds with attractive scents and colours to attract pollinators. Vegetative structures: refer to any plant organ that is not directly involved in sexual reproduction. In dicots, vascular bundles are arranged in a ring: these rings develop into the vascular cambium and produces secondary growth, this second growth is how wood is produced. In plants, all new growth derives from specialized cells known as meristems. Reproductive structures: reproductive structure provide us with our most important source of food and a variety of important economic products, colour, shape, and scent of a flow provides clues to how the plant is pollinated: Fruit: a mature ovary from a developed flower and can take many froms and shapes.
