Understanding human nature: n order to understand and motivate people, one must understand human nature. People behave according to certain principles of human nature. Although there are many human behavior theories, this course will study three theories: Human needs are an important part of human nature. Beliefs and customs differ from country to country and group to group, but all people have similar needs. As a leader you must understand these needs because they are powerful motivators. Based on his work as a clinical psychologist, abraham maslow felt that human needs were arranged in a hierarchical order; a pyramid-shaped model with basic physiological needs at the bottom and self-actualization needs at the top. There are two major groups of human needs: deficiency needs and growth needs. Deficiency needs (also known as basic needs) are lower level needs. Physiological, such as food, water, and sleep; and psychological, such as affection, security, and self-esteem are included in such needs.
