Thematic criticism searches for meanings within the texts, these can include mosaic and post modernism. Post modernism on the other hand ascribes that meaning is socially constructed and nothing can have set meaning/absolute or fixed truths therefore. Mosaic implies multiple different entities and identities coming together in unison and joining to represent something larger but not necessarily synthesizing with each other to combine into one, they remain separate. Postmodernism allows for things not to be favoured over other things therefore allowing for equality - no one is valued over another person/idea/entity. Thematic criticism suffers though because it attempts to force what it addresses into a structural theme, disregarding and neglecting anything that does not fit within this structure. Thus postmodernism is a direct challenge to thematic criticism and more or less the mosaic, both are socially constructed and must be recognized as so.
