Children= ensures survival and helps shape their destinies. Parents= one of the most fulfilling human experiences and a challenging opportunity for personal growth and development. There are no tests or laws to become a parent or practise parenting- licenses would be an intrusion of family privacy. Up until more recently, formal parenting education was undervalued and unavailable. The media depicts parenting often unrealistically- the happily ever after story . The parent-child relationship contains numerous complex meanings. These meanings and perceptions influence and adults decision to become a parent and also sub- sequential parenting behaviour. Destructive behaviours in adulthood are often traced back to family of-origin experiences in which poor and ineffective parenting may have plated a major role.
