Document Summary
Environmental impacts of findland"s aquaculture in the baltic sea. In response to our increasing global population, there has been a demand for technologies that increase the efficiency and output of food production systems. One example of this is the rise in aquaculture- the rearing of aquatic animals in artificial environments. The primary focus of aquaculture in finland is that of rainbow trout (oncorhynchus mykiss), which was first established inland but moved during the early. 1980s to the baltic sea coast (saikku and asmala, 2010). However, the impact of aquaculture on its host water bodies and surrounding aquatic life has caused concern in the scientific community, particularly regarding the baltic sea. One such impact is eutrophication, an excess of nutrients that causes unnaturally dense growth of plant life and disrupts ecosystems. The excess input of nutrients, in the case of aquaculture, enters the system through farm feed.
