As a deeply interdisciplinary field, it has moved beyond its original focus on economics to include a rich array of subjects ranging from epidemiology to gender studies. ***this literature houses on realities in scientific study of international development, then looks at the question of scientificness". Many students become interested in idev because they want to travel, or help people in poverty in third world countries. In order to generate convincing arguments in development studies, students are required to immerse themselves in the literature of the field. Idev requires students to eventually choose a narrow area of study. Development research is rich in methodologies, ranging from large-scale surveys to participatory action research.
