Living organisms that require a microscope to be seen. Some protists grow large enough to be seen with the naked eye: thiomargarite namibiensis grows to 0. 7mm. Some viruses show the size and complexity of a cell. By comparing dna sequences of different microbes, we can figure out how closely related they are and how they evolved. Fred sanger was the developer of the first method of dna sequencing. Haemophilus influenzae was the first sequenced genome (causes ear infections and meningitis) Metagenome is a collection of sequences taken directly from the environment: they are sequenced for medical interest.
