Phenotype: the outward expression of the genotype, consists of a person"s: father"s sperm + mother"s ovum = zygote (46 chromosomes total . 23 from each parent: zygote: initial cell. This cell will start replicating rapidly to millions and millions of cells. Each chromosome contains genes: made up of dna. Chromosomes split randomly and so every daughter cell ends up being different: ex. Siblings look alike even though the splitting of combinations is random and ends up being different but in both cases half chromosomes come from the mother and the other half from the father. Monozygotic (identical): a zygote that divides to form two genetically identical individuals: 1 in 250 births. Dizygotic (fraternal): occurs when two ova are released simultaneously and both are fertilized by different sperm: 1 in 125 births (higher with fertility drugs)
