Basic needs focus - emphasizes access to an amount of resources that permits survival and good mental and physical health. Human capabilities are functioning that are arguably the reason why we want out basic needs met being able to think, imagine, reason, appreciate, art in all forms, laugh, create, plan our lives, experiences and grief. Not just material resources bu also rights and freedoms ar necessary. Focusing only on basic needs may miss important conditions of peoples lives. Ex. household may have adequate economic resources but some members are deprived of the capacity for self realization not romanticize poverty. Examples of goals that development assistance projects have reducing poverty and inequality improving peoples health and well-being increasing their access to nutritious foods imporving democracy. What can go wrong with development assistance. Donor money goes toward high overhead costs.
