Just because we may not be directly affected by homicide does not meant we should remain unconcerned about those who are affected. Some social groups are disproportionately affected by homicide compared to other social groups: we need to understand why they are at an increased risk and what this says about the society in which we live. When it comes to violence prevention, the value of an informed public is crucial. The public tends to believe that homicide occurs far more frequently than it actually does. The public understanding of why homicides occur and who the victims and perpetrators are may also be incorrect. When it comes to homicide, the line between fact and fiction can very easily become blurred take the scotland story, for example: dawson could not recall if dr. jekyll/mr.
