Defined by what other people had to say, who you hang around with, and what others said. Medium that has caught society"s attention for youth crime is mass media. Youth crime statistics versus youth crime in media differ as in media shown more violent and aggressive - ie: youth crime death stands at under 1% but takes up most of the media and tv shows. Mostly property crime, theft under 500 dollars but this is not on media as it does not draw enough attention. 1) public interests and 2) this crime sells more = 3) more profit/revenue. If only based on media you would crime is more existent and more violent than in the past = not true by stats. Hogarth looked at newspapers to find this golden age when children were really good, but according to the research does not exist perhaps, the media influences this belief.
