Postmodernists, those who reject or challenge all that has been considered to be modern, would take the position that even scientific knowledge has no claim to truth than taken for granted understandings. Auguste comte: first to argue that society could best be understood by applying the scientific method to its study. The belief that science would allow them to discover laws of society and behavior. It has to be established that there is a relationship between concepts both within and among the propositions that constitute a theory. A time priority has to be established between these concepts; cause has to come before the effect. Spuriousness; whether we can be certain that there is no other causal factor related to both concepts. Challenges to positivism o o some say searching for cause does not make sense instead they look at the nature or process of the crime.
