As a human, one of the many advantages are having
the idea of self-awareness
o Can act certain ways to present ourselves diferently
to certain people
Our sense of self and social idenity helps make us who
we are when it comes to personality
Intrapsychic foundaions of personality
The idea that with a sense of self, we can look within
ourselves to our own conscious and unconscious thoughts
and feelings that, overall, make up our personality
o This is called Intrapsychic
Sigmund Freud’s contribuion
o Physical disorders can cause psychological
disorders, which are oten unconscious
o Said that personality could be changed
through methods of psychotherapy
Regulaion and moivaion: self-determinaion theory
When people feel free to choose, are competent at what
they do, and are connected to people around them, they
will be moivated and self-directed for the task at hand
o People difer to the extent at which they feel
self-determined and regulate their emoions
Is concerned with how people adjust their responses to
the environment, both consciously and unconsciously
