Document Summary

Genetically modified foods or also known as gm is usually referred to crop plants created for humans and animals consumption using the most recent molecular bio techniques. The plants are modified in laboratories to enhance desired traits. The plants undergo extreme care and supervision to ensure that the gene that has either been removed or added is done correctly and that it doesn"t harm anybody. Modifying crops is like the process of operating on a person. It is done with the outmost care and responsibility. The presence of genetically modified organisms in the food supply has risen sharply since being introduced in 1996. Today 93 percent of soy, canola oil and cottonseed, 86 percent of corn and 95 percent of sugar beets have been genetically modified. The population of the world is over 6 billion people and is predicted that it will double in the next 50-60 years.
