Every business has a collection bf and every bf is a collection of business processes. Information technology enhances business processes through automation (fully or partially: increase efficiency of existing processes, enable new processes/models that can transform the business, enforce policy and regulation. Functional types of is: sales and marketing systems. It can automate: order processing, order fulfillment, order inquiry, advertisement, etc. It can gather: individual orders (who, what, when, where), and consumer data. Information it can product to help business: purchase habit, sales trend, fulfillment efficiency, return rate. Pos system partially automates the in-store check-out process and produces sales-related information and customer related information: manufacturing and production sales systems. It can automate: making of individual parts, assembling, testing, stocking/shelving, etc.
