[EARTH 121] - Final Exam Guide - Everything you need to know! (36 pages long)
Document Summary
Know how to differentiate the parts and the processes that connect the parts. It makes it easier to break down the system into subsystems. The rock cycle is a subsystem of the earth. Types of rocks are a part of the subsystem of the rock cycle (igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary). There are 5 bare minimum parts that should always be in the rock cycle: three types of rock, sediment, and magma. crystallization, wetd, lithification, metamorphism, and melting. The processes are the arrows that connect the parts. If calcite is glueing sediment together it will react with hcl. Fossils in the rock mean it"s a sedimentary rock. Patterns like sand that has been blown into piles suggest it could be sedimentary rock. Wavy layers suggest the rock has been heated and subjected to metamorphism. When rock is completely melted it erases any clues of the type of rock it was before. Under a microscope, sedimentary rock will show particles cemented together.
