Research design garage: select a topic - phenomenon/issue/problem of interest. In this information age, the use of social media is becoming increasingly prevalent. This study is interested in examining how frequently university students use social media in class: come up with a research question to focus the research. To conduct research through the perspective of a positivist, the theory and hypothesis would have to be determined. To determine the theory for this research, information and previous studies were gathered and analyzed. The hypothesis for this research is that university students who do use social media during class time get lower grades in comparison to students that do not use social media during class time. Once the theory and hypothesis have been established, we would test out our hypothesis by conducting a large-scale survey. Through the process of random sampling, we would survey about 1000 students from 4 different universities in ontario.
