Gis: geographic information system a method that utilizes specialized software to analyze spatial data. It is made up a variety of fields based on journals, departments and degrees. It should not be its own distinct discipline. When you think of gis you may automatically think of maps and geography, but gis tools are used to support a wide variety of disciplines, even engineering! Classes may also be offered as part of engineering, forestry, geology, or environmental problems. Remote sensing: the science of observation earth from space. Photogrammetry: the science of measurement through photography and images. The vision is limiting because there is no control! It is better to think of it as a collection of data where the user can control/manipulate how the data is shared/displayed/represented.
