In some areas we have larger gaps called fontanels these gaps are really small. Anterior fontanel the bigger one in the front. More than 1 fontanel sphenoid, mastoid, posterior fontanel. So during birth it can come out easily and also when babies are born with a 1 pound brain, the growth of brain is much faster than the growth of the bone. Anterior fontanel starts to close by 2nd year, the smaller ones will close much faster. These structures are going to not completely solidify until later on, maybe adolescence.
