Official goals may not be actual goals ex. Orgs defined as a set of formal and informal (1) constraints which results in (2) pattern of behavior for any given (3) level of analysis. (1) constraints: a limitation or restriction of possible things that can happen ex. Job civility between co-workers = informal constraint. (2) pattern/behavior: regularity by which organization is working. Fast food restaurants. (3) level of analysis: constraints analyzed at level of org, departments, group, or individual ex. Gov vs. university, new product team, individual worker.
