Lecture 2: key terminology for rls: time beyond that needed for the necessities of living (i. e. , work, easily quantifiable: how much leisure time do people have, focus on discretionary" or free time. Does everyone have free time: maybe not necessarily, young moms, baby boomers (caring for their own kids, and caring for their parents at the same time) Does everyone have leisure time: no, however sometimes, people consider some activities of daily living (cooking, cleaning) as leisure time -- you find it enjoyable. What might the implications of that be: overall well-being. Leisure as activity: voluntarily-selected pursuits, can be a simple way to measure people"s leisure lifestyles. However, problems occur when the same activity takes on different meanings: How can playing basketball be leisure and not leisure: a child is being forced to be on a basketball team, nba player, it is their job, must show up for workouts practice etc.
