The path of the jains: everything has a soul. They believe that everything is alive, including some objects that we feel doesn"t have a soul like inanimate objects. Not only does everything have a soul but some objects have more than one soul. Sacred story begins with vardhamana commonly known as mahavira. He did not kick in the womb to avoid his mother from feeling pain. Made great renunciation when he became a young man (left behind life of the home, for a homeless life) He pulled out his hair by his hands. For the next 12 years he practiced rigid asceticism (deprivation of some kind, it is believed to produce a positive spiritual benefit ) and ahimsa (non-violence, refrain from violence towards all living things) Ascetics refrain from things, jain ascetic"s in particular refrain from food, movements, over indulgences of all kinds. With that they have a commitment to ahimsa (non- violence), refrain from violence towards all beings.
