Document Summary
Canada"s original territory (1867) --> was originally just the crown lands (small part of quebec, ontario, nova scotia and prince edward island), everything else was british territory. British columbia and confederation with canada --> in 1866, the 2 colonies (british columbia and confederation with canada) was made into one. Us was considered the most important trading partner (even with tariffs), but with annexation, the tariffs would be removed. Induced as bc felt largely ignored by britain. Due to the end of civil war in america (1865), there were still a number of military troops ready for military action. Alaska purchase (1867): united states bought alaska in 1867 from russia, canada was supposed to inherit the yukon gold fields, but it was ruled towards the us (many americans thought. Bc should be part of the us as well) Canadians disapproved against the british, as they believed. Canadians disapproved against the british, as they believed the british favored anglo-american relations.
