Terminology
- Tendinitis an inflammation of a tendon, usually from an acute injury
o Teno-, tenonto-, tendo-, tendino- (prefixes) tendon
o -itis (suffix) inflammation
o Acute injury when the tendon is overloaded, causing pain and swelling
- Tendinosis (tendinopathy) an inflammation of a tendon from chronic overuse
o Occurs from failed healing or repetitive trauma to a tendon chronic microtrauma
- Tenosynovitis an inflammation of the synovial sheath surrounding a tendon
