Document Summary

Neuroscience- the functional anatomy of the human nervous system. 4 regions of the nervous system- peripheral, spinal, brainstem+cerebellar and. Peripheral- all nervous system strctures not encased in the skull or vertebral column (median, sciatic, radial, ulnar nerves) Central- spinal cord, brainstem and cerebellar region and cerebral region. Somatosensory- relays sensory information from the periphery to the brain. Somatic motor- transmit voluntary motor signals from the brain to skeletal muscles. Autonomic provides bidirectional communication between the brain and viscera (smooth muscle, cardiac muscle and gland cells) Peripheral somatic nervous system, cell bodies contained within spinal cord and brain. Autonomic- cell bodies located outside the spinal column and brain in the sympathetic truck and ganglia. Spinal cord and brain are bathed in cerebrospinal fluid. Each cord has 31 segments with a pair of spinal nerves exiting from each segment. Above c7- spinal nerves exit the ivf superiorly. Below c7- spinal cords nerves exit ivf inferiorly.
