Differentiate the 3 steps of cell signaling. Receptors the cell presents to the outer leaflet. How many of those receptors are available. Cellular cascade that amps the signal, leading to a response. Just as important as the reception process. Act as gene transcription factors and can diffuse nuclear membrane directly. Glucocorticoids - act on glucose processes / use. Derived from arachidonic acid, which is modified from membrane phospholids. Prostaglandins are used to control pain response. Hydrophillic allowing it to be stored in an active or inactive form with requisite enzymes. Can be transported via most indirect pathways. Are usually derived from amino acids, or are amino acids. Stored in the same fashion as proteins. Need a transporter or ectocytosis via facilitated diffusion. Passively diffuse and provide a near immediate response. Number of second receptors is a major rate-limiting step. Information relayed by conformational change in receptor. Found in the cell membrane or the nucleus, are used by steroids.
