Document Summary

The impacts of herbivory, and how do predators control prey populations, and if they do how do prey population continue to persist in the presence of persistent predation. Often predatory populations appear to track prey populations, a classic example is that of the lynx-hare pattern. They are often cyclic, and often cycle in respect to each other. When one population goes up, so does the other, with the show shoe hair population seeming to indicate increase or decrease in the predator. If the lynx kills of too many of its food resource, their population will decrease as well as they have now limited their resources. Herbivory also strongly affects plant community populations, and can often alter the distribution of certain species. In order to determine the effects of herbivory you can build a fence (exclusure) and see the difference the effect that a herbivore has. Grazing herbivores can also have a dramatic effect and can cause habitat destruction.
