Technicians recreate motion pictures by means for still pics to move in rapid succession on screen. Invention of photography launched series of discoveries that made cinema possible. Projectors w addition of shutters, cranks, other devices became early motion picture projectors. Needed mechanism to create intermittent motion of film marey used crossgear on his camera. Kinetoscope: held film in continuous loop threaded around a series of bobbins. Believed movies were a passing fad, did not develop a system to project films onto a screen.
