A major problem with dbt is that one method is called irreverent communication and it is characterized by being sarcastic and giving unexpected responses to unbalance the patient and have them have to deal with it. It can be problematic however, especially if misused and particularly for women who often have their feelings dismissed. Ex. someone wants to kill herself and the therapist responds well that would make it difficult to come to therapy . It is the process of learning to bear pain skillfully by tolerating and surviving crises and accepting life as it is in the moment. As a result, it may encourage women to accept and internalize oppression and could serve to stop their legitimate protest against prison regime. To be encouraged to accept oppositions, tensions and incongruities results in the failings of the prison become legitimate and the prisoners discredited.
