Document Summary

Developed by little and robinson in 1988. Expanded to both custodial and community-based entities. Incorporates cognitive elements into a behavioural-based program that emphasizes moral reasoning. Goal: to enhance moral, social, and behavioural deficits of offenders. Mrt"s theory is based on the ideas of kohlerg"s moral development theory. Their are 6 stages and very few adults actually reach the sixth and highest stage: individuals with high moral reasoning, however, are less likely to commit crime. Offenders were seen to have: low ego/identity strength, poor self-esteem, poor self-image, strong narcissism, strong defence mechanisms, and strong resistance to change and treatment. Mrt is a training program that undergoes 32 hours, 12-step process, and 14 to 16 sessions in total. Developed by ross and fabiano in 1985. They believed that their were development delays in the offender"s cognitive skills that re necessary for social adjustment. This program has adopted the canadian system. Based on the theory that offenders suffer from social and cognitive deficits.
