1 in 4 women are sexually assaulted in their lives (18-24 years of age), 1 in 6 for men. Unfounded cases we notice that there is a trend with race. Women were believed to like being abused and physically assaulted because why else would they stay. Education, health care and social services sectors are where women are targeted and experience violence most often. Gender violence is on the basis of gender, doesn"t have to be by a man class and race increase a women"s chance of being exposed to violence. State violence targets women of colour and w/o privilege. Restricts frame and renders intersecting identities and interlocking systems of oppression invisible. Powerful image but not a useful point of departure for making any progress. Imposes a restricted script, invisible"s a women"s agency: how do we resist and avoid gender violence, master status. Ignores context: no history just an image.
