Eastern europe and balkans = population boom. In the west = lower mortality rates due to better medical care and access to birth control. People did not feel the need to have as many children. Populations growth is linked to the industrial development in the west and agriculture in the east. Modern day, its people coming to europe. Many go to the states in hopes of better economic opportunities. Rural -> urban center -> industrial west. In countries and the continent as a whole. Immigration may not always be legal, but generally accepted. Suddenly a lot of labour but not the products that this labour was producing. Creates a polarization between the west and east. Machines that change the nature of manual labour. Meant that the workforce begins to change. Growth of the european working class that did not really exist before this. Those who live in the industrial west.
