On october 27th we discussed more on the topic of democratic socialism but specifically the foundations, ideals and criticism towards democratic socialism. In class it was clarified that democratic socialism is nothing like communism, it is an ideology that combines both liberalistic and socialist views, which relates to the view of people"s control over political organization and social organization. A fundamental idea of democratic socialism is that society should be based on equality amoung all the members of society. Democratic socialist rather see that everyone deserves or has the right to equality of opportunity. For example, everyone has the right to basic human right freedoms as amartya sen proposes. Furthermore, while watching the video on slavoj zizek investigates on the ethical implications of charitable giving, i clearly understood that with liberty comes freedom. Investing in a nation"s capital stock can expand people"s capabilities as a nation, which is one of the goals of socialism.
