An organized assessment is the starting point of diagnostic reasoning. : process of analyzing health data and drawing conclusions to identify diagnoses (based on scientific method) 4 major components: attending to initially available cues, formulating diagnostic hypotheses, gathering data relative to the tentative hypotheses, evaluating each hypothesis with the new data collected, then arriving at a final diagnosis. Diagnostic hypotheses are activated early in the reasoning process. Once data has been collected, develop a preliminary list of significant signs and symptoms (less formal than the final list of diagnoses) Group together the assessment data that seem associated to each other. Validate the data by making sure they are accurate (look for gaps in data collection)
